Soil Analysis for Superior Road Stabilization

Cypher Environmental’s products have been utilized in road construction across more than 50 countries spanning six continents. With this experience under our belt, we know just how unique each road is. Factors such as composition, density, load-bearing strength, moisture content, regional climate, and traffic loading all have a significant impact on road performance. At Cypher, we meticulously assess these variables to determine the suitability of our stabilization technology, ROAD//STABILIZR® for your road construction needs. Soil analyses are conducted for every road we treat without exception.

“We don’t want to sell a product if it’s not going to work. It doesn’t help anyone,” says Diana Nicholson, M.A.Sc., P.Eng, Director of Engineering at Cypher Environmental Ltd. “If the materials are suitable, then we can achieve long-term stability and strength in a road, anywhere from 10 years and beyond with a one-time application.”

Investing in Research and Development for More Sustainable Road Construction

The development of our clay-based soil stabilizer, ROAD//STABILIZR®, underwent several years of extensive laboratory and field testing by our team of scientists, engineers, geologists and construction foremen. Our foundation lies in research and development, continuously refining our products for optimal performance while maintaining zero environmental impact.

Engineered to address common (and costly) road challenges, our products utilize all-natural organic-based biodegradable ingredients, ensuring safety and sustainability. “We would never make a product that we wouldn’t put in our own backyard,” says Cypher CEO, Todd Burns.

Cypher’s research laboratory, located at our headquarters in Manitoba, Canada, facilitates comprehensive testing to develop and assess product effectiveness on various road materials. Through soil analysis, we are able to determine the gains in engineering properties achievable as a result of treating roads with ROAD//STABILIZR®.

Our commitment to superior results drives us to oversee projects from inception to completion. We conduct in-house soil testing for our Canadian clients or analyzing the results we receive from our clients around the world, prescribe the product application rate and method, and supervise construction on-site. This personalized approach reflects our dedication to our core values, to customer satisfaction and to building long-term relationships.

Proven Superior Results

Before commencing any project, we collaborate closely with clients to understand site specifics, including traffic conditions, road materials, and existing challenges such as aggregate loss, rutting and corrugation, potholes, blowouts, etc. Standard soil soil analyses are conducted to assess particle size, plasticity, and optimum moisture content, guiding our recommendations.

Our team of experts reviews the analyses, considers the specific site details, and provides recommendations. Road materials that meet the minimum requirements for ROAD//STABILIZR® will benefit from substantial engineering property enhancements over the long term. Our ongoing data collection from roads treated with a one-time application a decade ago underscores the enduring effectiveness of our solution.

ROAD//STABILIZR® studies have reported gains of over 300% in California Bearing Ratio (CBR), a reduction of over 60% in rolling resistance, and a reduction of over 96% in swell capacity.

Rolling resistance is the resistive force that is exerted on vehicles traveling on a road due to the deflection in the road.

Achieving a Competitive Advantage

In addition to our rigorous in-house testing, we subject our products to 3rd party analysis by partnering with educational institutions and engineering firms. For example, the University of Brandon showed significant improvements in road strength through their 4-year study on the challenging roads of the Canadian prairies. Engineering firm Eng-Tech, after thorough analysis, concluded that our products outperform conventional road construction methods.

We hold a competitive advantage that is unmatched within our industry. You will not find another company that cares so much about getting it right the first time and every time after that. As CEO Todd Burns explains, “we know that we can’t build a business with one-off projects. We build long-term relationships based on repeat business when our customers see consistently superior results. The first step is making sure they have the right variables present in the road to get the highest return on investment from our technologies.”
