Canadian Geotechnical Journal

Canadian Geotechnical Journal recently published an article featuring Cypher Environmental and Red River College‘s joint Capillary Rise experiment program that was abstracted earlier in 2017. The experiment program was conducted and documented by Neil Chandler of Red River College and the Cypher Environmental engineering team. The focus of the program was two 1-year capillary rise experiments designed to test the influence of the soil additive on the soil’s adsorption of water. The enzyme additive is typically applied to marginal clay-based soils to improve the performance of road subgrades. The study investigated the potential increase in shear strength and the reduction in swelling. The two long-term soil column tests were conducted to measure water absorption due to capillary rise for soil specimens with, and without, enzyme treatment. The test results demonstrated that the addition of the enzyme soil additive had the effect of reducing water retained in the pore spaces of … Read More

EarthZyme® Soil Stabilizer Improves Infrastructure in Quito, Ecuador

Before EarthZyme Application

Quito, located in northern Ecuador, is the country’s capital. In recent years, the city has experienced a substantial increase in population in certain parts of the city. Neighbourhoods were formed quickly to accommodate the rise in population without formal city planning. As a result, infrastructure in these parts of the city was lacking. Proper roads were not built and temporary dirt roads were formed as citizens found ways to get around. In an effort to improve infrastructure and improve living conditions for its citizens, the Municipality of Quito implemented soil stabilization on two major transport roads in the summer of 2013. Cypher Environmental’s soil stabilizer product, EarthZyme® was chosen for these two clay road stabilization projects. The two roads demonstrated increased density post-application and 80 more applications have been scheduled for 2014. EarthZyme® is used by EPMMOP as a road stabilizer to strengthen the base of roads within the municipality of Quito. … Read More

When Base Plant Projects realized Syncrude’s road building material was in short supply, they teamed with Mildred Lake Mining to seek a solution. Did you know that the Alberta oil sands are the third-largest known source of crude oils in the world, next to Saudi Arabia and Venezuela? One of the largest producers of crude oil in Alberta is Syncrude. In 2011, Syncrude produced a considerable 105.3 million barrels of Crude Oil. Syncrude Canada Ltd. is one of the largest producers of crude oil from the oils sands in Canada. Based in Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada, Syncrude’s current capacity allows them to supply 15% of Canada’s petroleum requirements. In 2011, Syncrude produced 105.3 million barrels of Syncrude Crude Oil. In 2009, Syncrude was faced with a challenge – the sand and gravel they used for road building purposes was in short supply. They had to find an alternate solution that … Read More

Columbian EarthZyme® Haul Road

Columbian Coal Mine Puts EarthZyme® to the Test   A pilot project was carried out to prove the efficacy and enormous strength of EarthZyme® roads to facilitate the use of heavy trucks. These trucks are required in the mining, logging and oil operations around the globe. This specific road stabilization project was on a mine haul road in one of the largest coal mines in Colombia. This operation produces nearly two million tons of coal per year, maintaining a sterile standard ratio of 6 to 1. The mine mobilizes approximately 15 million cubic meters per year using CAT 793 trucks with a capacity of 380 tons. It also employs smaller CAT 777 trucks with a capacity of 140 tons. All coal at this mine moves in double truck lanes with a traffic gross weight of 32 tons. These trucks travel on the road approximately 22 hours a day, maintaining a … Read More

Expomin brings together 1,700 mine suppliers from 36 countries around the world, compiling the best and most diverse range of technology, equipment, machines, services and suppliers for the Chilean and Latin American mining industry.  Therefore it was only fitting that Cypher Environmental took part this year, to help raise awareness in the Chilean mining industry about the unique cost saving mining solutions that Cypher has developed. This year, Expomin took place from April 25th – 29th, in Santiago, Chile, and offered a great platform to demonstrate our unique road solutions. As we have done in the past, Cypher took advantage of the program offered by CAMESE (Canadian Association of Mining Equipment and Services for Export), and had a spot to showcase our road stabilization and dust control solutions at the Canada pavilion. CAMESE always does a great job of organizing the pavilion, to showcase the best and most innovative Canadian mining … Read More

Cypher’s President Asked to Provide Comment on the Trans Pacific Partnership

CypherConventions and Events, Cypher Environmental, Dust Stop, EarthZyme, News, Soil Stabilization, UltraZyme

It is a well-known fact that Cypher Environmental is an active exporter in Canada, with a steady percentage of its sales annually being made up of exports of its soil stabilization, dust control and water remediation technologies. This is why Cypher works so closely with organizations in Canada that are designed specifically to help grow and nurture companies in the country that have a major focus on sales outside of the country, such as EDC (Export Development Canada), CME (Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters) and the TCS (the Canadian Trade Commissioner Service). Therefore it was a natural fit that Todd Burns, Cypher’s President, was asked to be a Witness and address the Canadian House of Commons’ International Trade Committee in view of its pre-study of the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPP), in Winnipeg, on April 21st, 2016. The TPP is a trade agreement among twelve Pacific Rim countries, Canada included, signed on … Read More

Cypher Environmental - Haul Road

Industrial products provide dust suppression, water management alternatives. Anyone who has driven on a rural road or worked in remote areas where oil, mining, forestry or other development is occurring knows dealing with dust and unstable soils can be annoying; it can also be a never-ending and costly task. Winnipeg-based Cypher Environmental Ltd., run by 34-year-old entrepreneur Todd Burns, has perfected an eco-friendly way to virtually eliminate that dust and to stabilize soils in areas like mine sites, where heavy truck traffic is a constant and expensive irritant. And it has developed a technology that uses bacteria and enzymes for wastewater remediation, potentially a multimillion-dollar market. Cypher’s business motto – “Driven by innovation – partners in performance” – captures the fast-growing company’s raison d’être. As is the case with most successful companies, it took leadership to bring that motto and vision to reality. Burns, who has travelled to more than … Read More
